Cover: Wnt/ß-catenin signaling is crucial in multiple tissue growth and stem cell maintenance. Constitutive ß-catenin stabilization in hair follicle dermal stem cells induces ectopic outgrowth and skin fibrosis. The formation of ectopic hair outgrowth is partially mediated by Bmp–Smad1/5/8 signaling, Notch signaling, as well as Fgf signaling. However, activated dermal sheath cells may differentiate into aberrant fibroblasts that accumulate excessive collagen and thus cellautonomously contribute to progressive skin fibrosis.
