Cover: The cover shows that the lantern flickering on a boat gives signals to the city and two gates of the defensive wall open. During organelle remodeling, on the arrival of a boat (mitochondrion), flickering light from the lantern (permeability transition pore, PTP) gives strong signals to the city (nucleus), and two usually locked gates (H3K9me2 and H3K27me3) of the defensive wall respond and open immediately. Mitochondrial flicker, by short-term mPTP opening, acts as a retrograde signaling to specially open methylation gates of nucleus and facilitate somatic cell reprogramming process. See pages 747-751 by Liu et al. for details.
